Mix and matching strings?

Sign in to disble this ad
So the other day when trying to adjust my truss rod, I somehow managed to snap my D string on a set of brand new D'Addarios. Luckily, I kept the old set of strings and replaced it with the spare. Now though, I have 3 D'Addarios and my D string is of unknown brand and produces a signifigantly different sound than the others. Anyone else here currently mis-matching? Or should I just go out and buy another set because of one string?

happens all the time, break a string and then put on whatever you have laying around. Check out a place like juststrings.com and see if you can get a replacment for what you broke. It may not be the same make of string but at least you can match gauge and it will be new like the rest of your strings. The old string may sound dead compared to the new ones you just put on.

Depends on how much it's bothering you. Though I'm curious how you could snap a string while adjusting a truss rod...

Me too actually, but it happened. I just moved the wrench and heard a snap...looked down..and my string looked like a slinky from the nut up to the tuners about 2 inches.
