Mixing flats & rounds on my Warwick

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a 5 string Warwick Streamer with passive pickups.
I decided to try flatwounds on it because my D & G strings didn't have a strong enough signal for me, even after pickup adjustments. The flatwounds solved the problem on the D & G but they sounded really mushy and undefined on the E & B. I put the roundwounds ( DR ) back on those 2 strings and now I have pretty much what I want. Is it unusual to have both flat and roundwounds on the same bass ?
Thanx for your time.

i'd say its rare to mix but if it gives you the sound you desire, then good for you

Would think it very rare due to it usuually causing the strings that are flats to sound rather dead compared to the roundwound ones. However, your case seems to work.

Sounds like a fun concept, and one that I might consider trying with my fretted/fretless 6-string.
