Mixing La Bella Flats

Would mixing the E and A from a 760FX set with the D and G from a 760FL set be too stressful on the neck due to the imbalance?

I'm not sure as to the specific tension of each string but most string manufacturers already use imbalanced tension with the E going as low as 36ish lbs and the D being up near 52 lbs. I'd see if you can find the specific tension and compare em.

Those two sets are pretty close tension-wise. I don't think there would be any problem.

Now, if you mixed 2 Jamerson flats with 2 light Hi Beams on an old, trussrod-less Hagstrom, over time I think there might be trouble.

Thinking about it, that's a pretty good mix of gauges. The 760FL D and G always seemed too light to me for the E and A.

Report back with your findings.

that's what I figured but i wanted to double check. I'll give it a try and see how it goes.

Gave it a try and even just switching the FL E string with the FX E string made a huge difference. Makes it feel like a "traditional" 100-40 set.

Switching the A string was not as noticeable. I slightly prefer the FX but either one worked well. The cheapest solution is to buy an FL set with a single FX E string.

I wish la Bella would just make a set between the FX and FL. The Sadowsky set is nice but note the same la Bella tone.
