MK club custom with tape wounds?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi I'm new to the forum and frankly don't know much about the in and outs of modding/ personalizing basses so, please. Forgive my ignorance...

I just bought a Michael Kelly club custom acoustic 5 string bass guitar last Saturday. I like it a lot and the tone is ok... But the strings (phosphor bronze acoustic) are old and corroded and they don't really have the tone I was going for (want the upright bass tone). Anywho... I've done some research and read through a lot of threads here and it seems as though my best bet are La Bella 760n5 tape wound strings. Howev that leaves me with a few questions... Especially regarding string size/ tension (tone and whether it will damage the bass)

Will they be loud enough for a straight up acoustic settings?
What length string should I choose?
Will these strings have the appropriate amount of tension?
Do tape wounds work well with piezo pickups?

Thanks for the help

Dan

I'm of no help but have the same question. I just bought a used Michael Kelly Dragonfly 5 srting and would prefer tape wounds or flats to the bronze on it. I don't know if an AEB can handle another type string!
