Mounting flats without breaking the truss rod

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi folks,

Once in my life I experienced mounting flatwounds on one of my basses.

This experience was mounting Rotosound RS77 on my old Rickenbacker 4001. The tension seemed so high, and I was so afraid to break either the string or the truss rod of my bass, that I stopped turning the keys up as soon as I reached a low C on the E string.

Any comment, suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
And yes, I did a search on these boards, but unfortunately was unable to find accurate replies to my questions.

Cheers
Jay
