i read through two different threads first about price of sets for five strings then about mixed sets, and i was wondering would i get away with using a 105 as a B string on a fiver because i usually use a .35 as my G and a .85 as my E would i need a complete reset or is it jus not possible.
i hope it is coz it would save some money got some 105s i aint sold

thanks
j

I'm not sure you would be able to get a .105 tuned to a low b without it just flopping around on the fretboard.

Well, I have to say I'm very surprised that you tune a .085 down to an E, and have no problem with the really relaxed tension considering that is what most people use for their A string. You could always just try tuning down a .105 string to a low B and see if it works for you.

I used to use 30-90 on my fours, if I had played a 5er at that point, I'd have put on a 110. A 105 isn't such a vast departure, a little light, but not too bad. Give it a rip- without all that mass, it might be a bit bottom-shy. You have active electronics? They help a lot.

I used to do it, its not bad really, sounded fine, but then I have a feather lite touch, playing near the bridge would help.
