"mwaaa"iest fretless string

Sign in to disble this ad
so i just pulled the trigger on just a cheap SX fretless jazz. this is my second attempt at fretless, but this time with passive pickups. on my first fretless i was using d'addario half rounds, and those gave me the best sound. everything else sounded too bright with the bartolini pickups and pre. i guess my question here is, which strings would give me the most mwaa, but still have a decent growly attack. i am basically trying to go for a jaco tone without buying a fender. i know jaco did use rotosounds, but i wear those out really quickly. (a set a week on my marcus miller jazz before i discovered elixirs)

thanks
Grant

But, to answer your thread, I highly suggest Ti Jazz flats or LaBella Deep Talkin flats.

Mwaah + harmonics

My opinion...
+1 on the LaBella Hard Rockin' Steels

No way with TI Jazz Flats, I have these on the P and they are great strings (very musical and easy to play, but best mwaah ...and definitely lightweights on the harmonics as compared to roundwound Rotos or Labella SS...or even Labella 760). I would really like to hear opinions about the TI Jazz Rounds (did you ever notice the picture of the jazz bass on the TI string package having the P-bass knobs like Jaco had on the Bass of Doom).

Another recommendation would be DR lo riders IMHO

I'd stick with rounds if you want the classic mmwa sound. Flats are for the more upright sound, although you can still detect it in flats.

I think continue with daddario half rounds. if everything else sounded bright, they still will sound bright.

Both are excellent choices in my opinion. If you like low tension, TI flats; if not, LaBella flats.

Next some of you will be saying Jaco used flats and played mostly on the neck pickup.
