My first set of flats: Rotosound's 77.

My p bass has new strings and those are the rotosound rs77ld 45-105.

I love the way they feel on the hands and the high tension but the sound is very roundwound and Im looking for a more mellow sound. Roger Waters uses it and Steve Harris as well but I believe they use always fresh strings. What 's your experiencie with these strings? Are they going to get mellow with time or should I search for something else?

I've never played the Rotosound 77's but from what I've read they tend to mellow out pretty fast. It's usually agreed to that the Roto 77's are pretty bright for flatwounds to begin with.

Give them a month or so, and see what you think, they will mellow, but I dont know if it will be enough for you. Other than time you wont lose anything, as they will still be worth the same used in a month as they are now, if you decide to sell them.

Thanks Meatrus.

Yes, I think I will give them time. I'm thinking buying chromes so maybe I will have to take of the roundwounds from my other bass because Im liking too much the rotos if they stay with the same attack. I will be 100% flat.

Glad to help. Flats all the way then! The Chromes may be another good alternative to rounds actually (Rotos being the other), as they are another fairly bright set of flats.

Good luck
