Dude.

I was gonna mention spell check, but I figured I'd check your age under your profile before I did. Holy crap! YOU HAVE TYPOS ALL OVER THE PLACE!

I suggest working on your right hand technique...both on the bass and on the QWERTY keyboard. Both would benefit immensely. No sense just banging away for the hell of it like it's a strong man competition.

I wouldn't do it if I were you, based on the music you listed you seem to prefer a modern-ish and cutting bass tone. Usually people go for flats if they want the opposite (i. e. a warm and bassy tone). Slapping with flats in particular will sound nowhere like the bright and punchy slap sound that can be heard on lots of recordings.

And don't leave the bass out where the baby can mess with it! That's what cases are for.

I can get a *very* focused and cutting tone with my chromes (flats), especially by boosting highs on my (Sadowsky) preamp. They are brighter than most flats of course. I really like the fat heavy attack I get, even when I'm 100% on the bridge pickup.

But, I don't do much slap. Flats can get a very cool slap sound, but it's very different from the roundwound slap sound.

There's a 95% change you will not like the sound of Flats for slapping and popping.

And as mentioned above by others, you seriously need to spend time learning how to present yourself when typing. You're fighting an uphill battle the way you're typing now.

+1. If you don't like 4 month old Rounds I see very low odds of you liking Flats. At least for your mainline stuff.

Flats have a very nice round fingerstyle sound and tone, but RHCP/Rush/Metallica they're definitely not. If you can't hang with 4-month old roundwounds, you're going to hate flats (they're more akin to 6-month to 1-year old rounds out of the box). There are those who slap with flats, and it is a very cool sound, but it's going to sound way different than with rounds. More of a deep thud than a bright clank.

The way I see it is that a string can only handle so much energy before it actually is counterproductive. It would sound like an envelope filter so to speak by playing it way too hard. It doesn't take much energy to sound a perfect clean note. In fact, most people get faster when they relax and play gently. Try it for a while. Play as light as possible. Vey soon you'll see how much faster you get and your notes will sound much cleaner.

Btw: this will make your string last longer. The E probably broke because it was weak from your playing style rather than your cousin (or whoever it was)

wait... was it your e string or e key?

anyway, it sounds to me (based off of the judgement i've made about you from this thread) that you wouldn't like flats

IMHO, if you plan to slap ever...do NOT get flats. Maybe a mellower set of rounds, but not flats. I love flats, btw, but not for certain styles, slap being one of them.

Get Chromes, that's all that I can say. No matter how I turn the knobs, the things still sound great on my Jazz. I love the slap tone, but be warned, it's a chunkier tone.
Here, you can get a good idea of what slap on flats sounds like: http://www.lakland.com/ac_DJ5.htm

What a cool link! Very interesting hearing the difference between the two strings like that. I can really hear the difference in how flats seem to sit in the mix better in the motown samples. At first, the bass sounds a little transparent but as soon as the band comes in BAM! there it is. Great.
