I bought a five string fretless about 6 months ago and I really like it the only thing is the strings had me developing new calluses for the first month since they were really hard on my fingers while I've grown used to the feel of the strings I'm really starting to think I could get a much better tone if I had smoother strings. Any recommendations for a new strings that will give me a cleaner tone?
two options "Ground wound's and / or Elixer strings.
Really; I don't hear a lot about these two options much lately but as a 45 yr. working Pro I would have to say; try it! You might like em'!
What strings are on it? Some strings are just very rough and you don't have to go with coated strings, grounds, tapes, or flats to get a smoother string.
Circle K and DR strings I've noticed are quite a bit smoother than something like Rotosounds.
What kind of tone are you looking for?

I've got the new Fender 9050CL Flats set on my Ric 4003FL. They are smooth, deep, good tension and balance and will suit a wide range of musical styles.
