Okay, real quick version:

How do I make strings dead QUICKLY? My Fender suddenly sounds very, very bright. I've been using the same kind of strings [DR Hi-Beams] for 2 years and this has never happened. Also, I usually buy used basses and the dead roundwounds always sound great.

So what's an easy way to quickly kill off your strings?

That's what I was thinking.

Unfortunately, Pearl Jam isn't in town tonight, so I can't find their fans.

Les Claypool is. I tried to buy tickets last night, computer crashed on me. When I signed back on they were sold out.

Thanks Windows.

1. The thread probably vanished because there is already a thread on this, and I think it's a sticky.

2. The Claypool tickets sold out cause I bribed a guy at Ni-Mo to shut off the power until I could buy them all and sell them on eBay. Sorry.

First: Help! I need to get rid of that new string sound!

Then, perhaps re-evaluating the strings you're using is in order. Hi-beams aren't exactly what I would choose for a dull, dead tone.

Because this is in the FAQ, I'm going to close this.
