My new dr neons

Sign in to disble this ad
I decided to try dr neons after reading reviews here on talkbass and because my Dunlop nickel strings were going dead. In the past I used lowriders, earnie balls, and hi beams and I can honestly say the neons are the best sounding string IMO. While the dunlops were punchy these dr's are just much nicer and higher quality overall with strong low mids and amazing growl on my B string which I hope last for a long time. I wanted to try sunbeams after seeing u2 in Miami and loving Adams bass tone but my local samash didn't have them in stock, however I'm more then happy with these strings and highly recommend them.

I strung for the first time my MM with Neon DR (orange) and they fell and sound like my usual strings, Rotosound SwingBass 66.

The DR cost me 40 €, the Roto 27€... I did it for the look, but one time is enough.

Are they comparable to non-colored DR strings, like Hi Beams or Fat Beams? I've heard good things but I really can't bring myself to put neon colored strings on my bass.

Lulz aside...I'm ordering a set this week...I'll inform you of my synopsis shortly.

OP - FYI, Neon's are basically Sunbeams with the K3 color coating. So you are trying Sunbeams, just coated...

How do. They compare to other coated strings llike Elixir? I've always hated coated strings, but was hoping these would sound good simply because I want hot pink strings haha

I've been sold on DR strings for quite some time now. I use the Black Beauties but my 5 string is due for a new set....may try the neons. Love the sound!

Yep...DR Highbeams are MY strings. I have been a little curious about the neons, but not enough to try a set out...

They do look sort of cool, though.....

I hated coated strings, too - until I tried the Black Beauties (which are the same thing as the neons). There has been a HUGE leap forward in coated strings, and I must say I'm very impressed.

The dr neons will last at least twice as long as the rotos. And your right they share a lot in common with rotosound swing 66. I'm rating them as lasting a good 2 & 1/2 to 3 times as long as rotos for me. So the yearly string maintanence cost actually is less then useing rotos. The neons being the only strings Ive liked as well as the rotos and in a small way a little better. Little bit more focussed low bass. And sharing the more pleasant then most treble char. If you continue to like the dr's your minamal cost savings would be 14 of them C with double line thru middle things. Lol.

Just got a set of these, they are really cool strings, and sound great, however my G string is dead as a hammer, I mean like flat wound dead right out of the box. I've heard of things like this happening but have never before experienced it, I called DR and talked to a really cool guy there that is sending me a new one at no charge!

They don't have as much bite as their uncoated strings.

If you don't like the neon, they come in black or clear as well.

The neons are coated dr sunbeams it turns out. So if you want their tone without neoness, lol, get sunbeams.

All the K3 Coated strings have the same "Coating" just some are colored.

4 different NEON colors, Green, Yellow, Pink, Orange... and Black, Blue, Red, and Silver (clear but they look like REALLY SUPER BRIGHT SILVER).
