I wasn't finished with my last post. Itchy trigger finger. I wanted to post a photo of the strings, but I'm having errors attaching the jpeg. It's under 1meg. I never could attach files to TB.

The A and D strings look beat to hell after one practice, but the strings weren't dead. It was one of those nights in Chicago where you don't need the air on, but there was plenty of humidity in our practice space, and it was rough moving up and down the neck. The E string was definitely in good shape, and its too bad that the other strings weren't in the same condition.

If someone wants to give me their email address, I'll send the photos, and you can post them. It's kind of bizarre when you see the strings.

I'll definitely contact SIT.

Silencers are my favorite "half-round" type of string, tone-wise. They are just bright enough, brighter than flats, have a pleasant mid-range and they do reduce finger noise. I never noticed any stickiness with them. I will say though, they are probably the worst-appearing strings out there. After a few sets they look like they are a year old. No issues with the tone though, they last a long time for me.

So Jkaz I think what you are seeing is just the character of the strings. Tell SIT about it anyway and let us know what they say.

I've tried GHS Pressurewound, Ken Smith Compressor, Rotosound Solo 55 and Alembic CX-3 besides SIT Silencer. All of which are a flattened rounds. SIT's were clearly the most advanced as they were the smoothest to the touch yet had more harmonics than all of the strings above (except RS 55 which really felt like groundwounds). I had some objections to the tension and balance of them so I would have trouble committing to them but there's no denying the quality and technology of the Silencers.

I finally uploaded the photos to photobucket. There has to be something wrong with these strings. This is how the strings looked after one practice.

Has anyone else experienced this before?

They look very oxidzed there, Jkaz. Yes, I think you should definitely contact SIT again and e-mail the picture as well. That's just not normal with any string, especially after only one practice gig. I don't think this should be blamed on the lack of air or high humidity, especially if you wiped them down after practice, unless you have, like, really acidic skin!
