ohhh yes sir. a look through www.conklinguitars.com should give you an idea. personally i would never use any bass with more than 6 strings, but one of my inspirations to start playing bass was a local guy who RIPPED on a 7 string. it was tuned like so, if my memory serves me correctly

G (freakin' LOOOOW)
C
F
A#
D#
G#
C#

so that's a half step up on every string from standard tuning, mainly to match the guitars which were tuned to dropped C. he used that low G very sparingly though...trust me the thing kills.

PS. what in the world is that beautiful bass in your signature link????

Cool, I thought the B string was the lowest string they made.
I think that a cool bass could be tuned:
F
B
E
A
D

(who needs the G string )

@RockFace: It's an Ibanez SRX390 (new for 2006)

Did anyone ever see that episode of mythbusters on the discovery channel? When they tried to find the brown note and they had adam surrounded by huge speakers while wearing a "depends".

I dont think they found it though.

There's two strings lower than the B, a low F# and a low C#. Jean Baudin and Garry Goodman, Stew McKinsey, and Jaquo III-X use them, to name a few.

I use a Bass that I call a Sub contra Bass,Tuned Low C# F# B E.

http://www.adlerguitars.com/basses/s...subcontra.html

here's some info on my Low C# string concept

http://www.jauqoiii-x.com/JK_pages/JK_lowc.html

Also if you want an example of a what a Low C# and F# string may sound like check out track 0407
at
myspace.com/jauqoiiix

and at the end of the track called Bubblework(from Bassist Garry Goodman)you can hear how he utilizes the Low C# string.
