Question Name those Strings!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi All,

I know there have been several of these threads in the past, but I did not find what I was looking for.

On my 4 string, I have a set of flatwounds with purple silk wrap at the tuning peg ends. The ball ends are plain metal.

I could have SWORN that I remember these being D'Addario Chromes when I bought them (I could see the package in my mind)! But they don't have the colored ball ends. So, definitively yes or no, has D'Addario ever made a set of flatwound bass strings without the colored ball ends?? And the wrap is definitely purple, not remotely blue in any way.

Based on my online research, GHS is another possibility, but the package does not in any way look familiar, and I have a decent photographic memory.

I LOVE these strings, and I want to be able to replace them eventually. They were nice and mellow right out of the package, not 'new' sounding at all.

I'll let you guys know what the gauges are when I have a chance to check them after work.

Thanks everyone!!

GHS have purple silks, and make a 105-45 set, if that can help you.

Edit : Reading your description of the sound, they're probably GHS, they're pretty "dead" sounding even new. Great strings, if they made a 40 G string I'll probably still be using them.

Yeah, D'Addario, as far as I know, doesn't make flats in that gauge. They make 45-65-80-100 Chromes and 50-70-85-105 Chromes. The latter are my FAVORITE bass string.

Another vote for GHS. Pics would help, of the silk.
