Nasty E on Fender 9050MLs

Anyone notice this?

I put a set on a new MIA Jazz and even after a couple of weeks, the E just isn't cutting it.

It sounds (and I think feels) like the E just doesn't have enough tension to really get going relative to the other strings.

Plucking up from the G, it's like PUNG! PUNG! PUNG! splut.

Sounds feeble anywhere on the fretboard compared to any of the other three strings, plugged in or not.

I'm used to G strings being too tight and hot for the rest of a set, but this is a new one on me.

New.

Don't have the problem with the 9050M set.

The old 9050ML used to be the best gauge of the series, too.
