So, right now i have Daddario ProSteels medium-light gauge on my P-BASS and they are great, good high-end, clanky and punchy.
However i find they lack the "deep punch" i'm trying to get.
I play heavy-metal mostly, so i need (and like) the punch and clank.
Someone told me i should get heavy gauge strings, or DR Lo-Rider, and maybe pressure-wound strings.
Any suggestion? |

I got so used to the big fat thud of tapes that my strings take over quite a bit of my tone.
I miss using my tone for a volume push. Now tone adds in a lot of string tone but if you're looking for rounds, I suggest a heavy string.
More metal makes more magnetic motion.
oomph, plain and simple.

Make any sense?

| | Will work for groove | | Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: Middletown, OH | | | ProSteels accentuate the high-mids and kind of dull down the low-mids. Sounds like you need something like DR Hi-Beams or the Lo-Riders. One thing about DR, they bring out the full spectrum of your bass.
And Phalex, I used GHS Brite Flats for years. They're great strings for a P bass too.

Nice low, mid and high on my bass.

and dod't chose gauges under 100-40!!! under that its guitar and thin teritory

I would definitely suggest getting at least a medium gauge (45 - 105 type range) if not heavier. You can find anything you need from juststrings.com, or just talk to your local shop and have them order it. |

You may choose heavier strings for lots of other reasons, but they don't sound deeper. In fact, if there is any difference I'd say that lighter strings have deeper sounding lows...
IMO.
