fender p-bass. play in a band that has some occasional slapping and popping (funky/hip-hop/rock), "rage" riffs, and some walking bass lines on the ballad stuff. overall, think rock meets pop/rap. ive tried the hybrid slinky's (liked) and ghs bass bommers (ok). what else should i try? i have a tight budget (under $25) and want something that isnt gonna give me a ton of finger noise. i play fingerstyle

If you're getting a lot of finger noise, you might want to re-evaluate your playing technique, amp EQ, fretboard action, and use of tweeters...

But anyhow... I've always had good times with my favorite string - D'Addario XLs - for fingerstyle and pickstyle rock. They're easy on the fingers, not too stiff, and have great tonal balance without any unpleasant brightness.

+1 on the technique keeping in mind that finger noise is unlikely to be heard in the mix.

Might be out of your price range depending on where you buy strings, but try TI Superalloys. I like the EB Hybrid Slinkys but the TIs are better and will last longer IMO, YMMV, etc.

I am looking for the same thing. I liked the Fender 7250s but they are getting dull quick. Next try is LaBella HRS which I have used in lighter gauge on Sadowsky. They are a pretty neutral string with good mids and long life. They slapped well and had non harsh highes. I am going 45-105 this time.

+1 on the TI Superalloys. They are really good strings and works well for everything, including slap. Not too harshly bright, but still snappy and punchy.

I have a set of SA on a Sadowsky RV5. I really like the punch. To me they slap like a worn in set of DA XLs which is nothing to write to mom about. I guess the slap was OK, it is just the pop that was rather dull. Of course that bass just had slap tone for days with the HRS.
