Need help findin killer strings

I've been playing electric bass for about 5 years and I still haven't found strings i love. I buy flatwounds half the time and roundwounds half the time. I always keep flat wounds on my jazz bass to get that nice deep mellow tone. I recently bought a washburn xb920 and want to discover a set of strings which i really dig. Any suggestions, what strings do you prefer? I am not a fan of bright tangy bass sounds. Thx

i'm partial to DR strings, myself...give them a shot. they've got a full range of flat and rounds, steel and nickel, and their quality is fantastic.

TI Jazz Rounds are a great mix of both...albeit a little soft, but damn good sounding strings.

i'm going with downneck on this one... i used Fender strings for a while but found DR to be of best sound quality... i have the black beauties on my Schecter C4 which have been on for 2 months and still have the "piano-like" tone from when they're brand new and Hi Beams mediums on my p bass

GHS Flea Signatures.. I am in love with these. They last a good long time (4 months and counting) and they have great tone right out of the package!

I use rotosounds, they are never too bright and have a good tone for me. Tried those?

D'addarios are the most consistent strings, are cheap and sound good. What more do you need?

If you want bright tone get the Prosteels. Bright as the Flea set without the extra cost in order to fellate the little 'un vicariously. Seeing as you don't, get half-rounds. It's a nice comprimise between nickel rounds and flats.

I guess part of the equation is what kind of stuff you play. Different strings seem to excel in different genres.

I've got a six fretless with D'Addario Chromes, a FrankenTurser Fiver and a Violin Bass both with Rotosound 77 flats and a Spector Euro 5 with Carvin Nickels on it.

They all sound different and all sound great to me, depending on which songs we're doing.

I happened across them from Pavel, the luthier who made my bass. He had DR "Lo Riders on my newly delivered Pavel Jazz Pro 5 deluxe bass.
The bass, my Pavel Jazz Pro 5 Deluxe was delivered to me in December 07, boy, how is it I never thought of even using these strings until they were on my bass. Along with a very good bass, one needs very good strings. My new jazz bass sounded incredibly good, and my strings lasted longer than 2 weeks, I also think it's because of the great circuitry Pavel has inserted in my bass, he hooked me up!
I am so satisfied with these strings. I like D,addario as well, but DR's are my ONLY choice.

I endorse Pavel Jazz basses

Do you play metal or such? Cause I know there are some good strings I found before that give a great sound...especially in Drop D.

EB Power Bass

Real good punchy tone. cuts through good too!. Although, they are a thicker guage which my be problems if it hurts your fingers.

I think string purchase is a personal journey (my journey cost me a small fortune, BTW). I have tried a truckload of strings and always keep coming back to Labella HRS. But you might try them and think they suck.

Try Pyramid Gold flatwound strings one time. They're expensive. They sound great and last a long time.
