Need help finding strings for ATK....

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi. I have very acidic hands.

I play an Ibanez ATK-3EX1 with coated bass strings, and I play with a 1.14 pick and my fingers. I pick at the bridge or above the pickup and I play 1-2 hours a day, and it's a string through with a fairly high-tension string-thru body.

I play in Standard at all times on it, except for the occasional half-step down kick.

I need a string that's coated, .50 or .45 - .105 gauge, has high tension, and will last a long time, and won't eat through my fingers like grated cheese.

Can anyone help me find one that will work for this bass?

Dean Markley Blue Steel are a personally favorite of mine, they can get really bright and aggressive. Elixers maybe also be worth a shot, don't know much about the cleartones though.

I tried those and they went out in about 2 weeks.

My ATK came strung with Elixirs so, isher1992, chances are you could try an ATK with Elixirs at a music shop. Sorry but I have nothing more to add since my ATK is strung with D-Chrome flatwounds and most people look for advice on roundwounds.

You were just the one willing to pay the most. That doesn't sound like winning to me.

Try the Cleartones and see what they do. You have nothing to lose. Another alternative could be go with a set of tapewounds that are high tension, llike the LaBella tapes. They can be had a decent price from www.Carvin.com.
They sound smashing with a pick, but the tapes may be too muted for you. The tape would probably help with the high acidity problem.
Nice to know there is another Arkansan around.
