Need help with Flats

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been thinking of switching from rounds to flats on my Fender American Standard 5 string...

I need to know who makes a set of flats that are in a heavy gauge... I'm currently using a 45-130 set since we play in low-to-high (A,C,G,C,F)

I also need to know where I can buy them, since I am only seeing 4 string, light to medium, gauges here in my area

All suggestions are welcome... Thanks

Labella Original 1954 set is a heavy guage.

I'm not a user of altered tunings but have you considered using a light gauge B string tuned up a half step in place of a standard E string? I would think you'd get better results tuning a B string up a half step rather then an E string down 2 whole steps...

Yeah Pete, I tried the alt tuning on the B, it didn't work for me and I use the low A.... I know it's weird... I will have to check out the Labella's... thanks

What I meant was two B strings - one heavy guage for the low A and a light guage for the C. Is that what you've tried?

No, I haven't but wouldn't that constitute me buying a set and an extra... Interesting concept though.

If you search around a little bit you can find individual strings for sale instead of sets, I'm not sure on the flats which are available like that though.
