Need HELP - No 105 Super Long Scale CHROMES

Sign in to disble this ad
Just got D'Addario Chromes ECB82 (Long Scale) for my new string through jazz bass. Major problem, the 105 E-string is not long enough. The whole reason I got the set was for the 105 E.
Went to D'Addarios web site and they do not make a 105 in Chromes. Is there an alternative single sting on the market I can get that would not sound out of place.

I converted my jazz to string-thru this morning, and also had the problem with Chromes.

Should we just use the Chromes Super Longs? Even if we want the heavier gauge (105s).

Any idea what other flats in 45/50-105 are a brite flat, similiar to the Chromes?

I went flatwound shopping yesterday, in search of a super long set of flats. The only thing I found were some Peavey Cirrus strings, but I think they were roundwound. In the end, I just cut off the silks, but that's not very practical.

UPDATE: I did an internet search, and apparently LaBellas will fit, and (paraphrased) Fender "Super Bass" strings are designed to fit string-thru basses.

I think I'm gonna special order a Chromes SL 100 string, since I've already got the other stings from the 50-105 pack.

Flats/Chromse are supposed to last a long time, so I'll just get my bass set up with this string combo and worry about it latter.

I looked at the Chromses SL set and the A strings is an 87 or 89, strange combo with the 100 E. The 50-105 set has an 85 A!

Anyway, I really like the Chromes and can not find, on TalkBass, any flats that are decribed as being similar strings. One guy said he went throughs $120 worth of Flats to settle on the Chromes, and another guy said the Chromes are the best flats for live use, and most other flats work better for recording.

So bottom line, I got to stick with chromes, even if the 100 E is a bit floppy when down tuned.
