Need help on re-stringing my P-Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Here is what happen, i have a modify Aria STB P-Bass with Delano P-Bass pickup on it.

Currently I'm using a set of Ernie Ball Slinky regular for my P-Bass. The problem I'm having is that i can't get that low muddy sound (or should say the P-Bass sound) on my bass.

Was wondering is it to do with the strings I'm using at the moment.
At the moment I'm getting some really treble sound even with tone turn all the way down, and bass boost on the amp etc. So i was thinking it might be the string i'm using.

Any recommendation on type of strings for p-bass to ditch out that low muddy sound?

I usually use my G&L and Rockbass in the band but was thinking if i can get the right sound on this p-bass i might be able to gig with it.

The Ernie Balls sound really trebley to begin with; it takes a bit of playing to wear them in and make them more mellow. I used them for a while, but then switched to the D'Addario Xls, and I'm going back to flats next set I buy.

Although I don't play a P-bass.......

Actually, I payed on one for a while and got the tone I wanted with flats, I'm not sure what they were, though. I was just borrowing it.

Flat wound strings. If that doesn't do it, get a bridge cover and stick some foam in there to mute those suckers. If that doesn't do it, you may just have to put actual mud on your strings.

+1 on the flats.

I always loved my Pbasses, but once I found how awesome they could sound w/ flats, it was all over. Pbasses were made for flats.

Either put some dead strings on it or put flats on.

Roll of the tone control. If the tone control is not getting you muddy enough, replace the 47nF capacitor on the tone control with a 100nF capacitor. Two solder joints and a $1 part.
