Describe the sound you're looking for and maybe we can help you better.

Short Scale

Many so-called short scale basses are actually medium scale.
Do yourself a favor and save the hassel, get mediums from the get-go.

ok my bass is 30" scale ...I want a bright and punchy sound... the only short scale strings I have found are GHS, D'Addario, ROtosound and Thomasick or something... and I'm not convinced by them

DR makes short scale versions of Hi-Beams and Sunbeams (both 45-105)

I use the Sunbeam set (Nickel r/w) on an Ampeg AMB1 with a passive MM pickup.
They're plenty bright and punchy. I imagine the Hi-Beams (s/s r/w w/hex core)
maybe even moreso

The Ampeg has a 30" scale (not 32"). IOW, T/I JF324's or JR324's were too long

I would have suggested Hi-Beams as well. They're hella bright.
