I just got a Conklin 7-string. It is strung B-F. I want to string it F#-C. What gauges would be best. I play mostly contemporary gospel, some jazz, funk, etc.
The gauges for Snakeskins are .027, .047, .067, .087, .107, .127, and .150. The S.I.T. Power Steels are .025, .035, .055,
.080, .110, .135 and .165.
Also, if can recommend any other brands. gauges, I'd appreciate it. |

The sets that I first mentioned are 6-strings with the additional F#. Re: tonal differences, I want the 7-strings because of the range in one position and because a LOT of songs that I play are in Bb, Db, Eb etc. So, the low Bb, Ab, G on the F# will be very useful. I didn't want to have to detune.
The BDGT-7 feels great. The neck is easier to play and faster thatn the one on my YamahaRBX 765A. The electronics and finish on the bass are to die for. The string spacing is a little tight, but I'm getting used to it.
Saxnbass-thanks for the link. I found places where I can get the strings that I mentioned. I was trying to find more info from on alternate gauges etc. Conklin Guitars has the strings as well as bassguitarstrings.us, another good site for strings. |

Does anyone here have any experience or thoughts about a .180 F#. Please let me know. He also suggested mating the .180 to a 6-string set of La Bella Hard Rockin Steels (B .128) |

I use the .185 and like it better than the .165. Not so much because it's fatter, but because in spite of being fatter it's also more flexible and thus has a nicer balance of overtones while still having a good tight feel. And yes, my B string is often a tapered .128 Labella or tapered D'Addario .135. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
