I've had my bass for nearly 2 years and the strings are starting to show visible corrosion.

What size (gauge?) are the strings and what would you guys recomend?

I use rotosound swing bass on my 76 tbird. Brings a nice edge to a somewhat mellow sounding bass.

What gauge? I think they're .45, .65, .85, .105. Is this true?

You can get Rotosounds in a lot of different gauges, 105-45 is standard, and what you will have at the moment on your bass.

Depends on what you like. If you like a bright sound, DR Hi-beams or Rotosound 66's. If you like a more mellow roundwound, D'addario EXL or EB Slinkies are 2 i've used and like. If the nickels are still a little much, try a half or pressurewound like D'addario or GHS. Or even a flatwound like Rotosound 77's or TI Flats.

In the end, it all comes down to experimenting with things that you might like, nobody on here will be able to tell you what sounds good, because it's all personal opinion. Somebody might come on and say something like "DR Sunbeams are the best string ever!" You buy a pack, and hate them with a passion.

Just experiment a bit, find out what you like.
