Need some advice on strings

I am looking for some suggestions on strings. The type of music I play is a mixture of metal, blues, funk and prog. My brother and I like to call it "space rock". At some points I am playing like a demon with 32nds, 16ths and 8ths and at some points we will mellow out and coast through solos and stuff. I prefer a more mellow sound to the twangy, guitar sound but I would also like to get a nice solid lushness out of the strings ( playing diads and triads). From reading posts, that leads me to the conclusion that nickel would be the way to go. I am leaning towards the La Bella deep Talking strings. As of right now I still have the factory strings that came on the bass. It is an Ibanez GSR200. I like the sound I get out of them, but would like a deeper , more mellow tone. Now I am rambling. Any suggestions would help.
