Need soundclips for DR Hellborgs

Ey TB,

Anybody has a soundclip of their DR Hellborg Strings? Or knows a link to one?

I'm very interested at trying DR's Hellborg Sig. The things is I can't just go out to the local mall and purchase a set. 'Have to get the item shipped to our part of the world. They're a little more expensive than the usual strings + international shipping cost means I gotta be sure on how will they sound on my Jazz bass.

I've read a lot of reviews: the strings' emphasis on the fundamentals is consistent as well as the not so strong highs. All well and good but when it comes with the mids, some say they're scooped, others say there's a hump somewhere.

I can't judge for myself either 'cause the only soundclips on the internet are the ones of Jonas Hellborg himself. Nice sound but so is his hollowbody Warwick sig and rig. He can probably make stretched rubber bands sound good with his setup and technique.

Thanks!

They are very strange sounding strings. They are single wrap pure nickel, so they have NO overtones. I don't mean they are subdued, there are NONE. It's kinda like talking in a soundproof booth, your voice just stops with no echo. These strings give you the fundamental, and that's it. Also weird is that the tuner end of the strings is nothing but core to wrap around the tuning posts. There is no taper, it goes from huge to bare core!

That actually sounds like the string for me then! I need to snag a pack.

Thanks! Little or No overtones is often the review. Got clips?

ok, let me rePhrase my question then, for those who have (or) had used DR Hellborgs, do they sound any close to Hellborg's sound on his recent performances?

These sound like weird strings. lol

If this is the sound Hellborg is going for, why rounds? Why not just put a set of light flats on there, and be done with it?

Flats still have some overtones...these have NONE! Flats are pretty high tension as well, might have something to do with the reason. I wish I would have done some sound clips when I had them.

I had some on my acoustic for a while. They were interesting sounding strings, with a strong fundamental, but "no overtones" is not at ALL how I would describe them. "No overtones" is basically a syne wave with no brightness at all. The Hellborg strings were plenty bright and clear-sounding, but full at the same time.

There used to be a video test of them on the Bass Player site, but it's gone now.

ok, so I got Some Hellborg signature strings and wanted to post my review. Although there is a-lot of talk about the fundamentals, these strings are plenty bright. They have a sweet sound and love to be plucked or popped. My coordination on slapping isn’t that great. I was a little disappointed by the brightness, but I cant take them off, because they just sound so good. Due to the light gauge, the tension is not that high, so your neck might relax a bit and you may need to adjust your truss rod if you had heavier strings on before.

The strength of the fundamental has nothing to do with brightness.
