Need String Recommendation-Please Help!

I have a G&L L2500 5-String P-Bass. Currently I have SIT strings on this bass and they are pretty hard on my fingers and tend to "ring" on the frets. Also, the treble is high for the music I play.
I play mostly Motown, 60's and 70's music and want something with a deeper sound.
So, after reading a lot of postings I am interested in flatwounds and have read a lot about Sadowsky flatwounds.
My questions:
1. What flatwound strings do you experienced bass players recommend for the type of music I play? Is there another flatwound brand I should look at vs. the Sadowsky flatwounds?
2. What guage should I select (45-65-85-105-130T)?
3. What about tension with the guage you recommend?
4. Where would be a good place to order them from?
5. Finally, what about having to adjust the truss rod for the string you recommend - will I need to do this, and if so, how do I do it (I don't have a local music store who can do this) and what should I be careful of?
Cost is not really a factor--I just want a good, deep, warm sound.
I really appreciate any advice and suggestions!
Thanks in advance!!!
