Need strings with good attack and punch

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all i'm not big on the knowledge of strings and came here to ask some experts.
I am looking for a set of strings (40 - 100) that have great attack and punch. It's hard to describe what i'm looking for but all the strings I use at the moment seem "dead" and "flat"
I would really like some clear punchy sounding strings that really bring out the sound of my bass.
I really need strings that work great with distortion and really bring out the harmonics. With my current strings (rotosound swing bass stainless steel, roundwound) a lot of my distortions can sound quite flat and I really need something that brings out the best in them.

It seems like you want a fresh set of strings.

My bass is a squire jazz. Soon I will add an active bass to my setup (next pay day! aha)
That goes into my Badger Schism 3 parallel loop pedal. Loop 1 goes to a boss ls-2 (Set to the A <-> B Setting) with a Human Gear Animato in loop A (nothing in loop B yet but there will be soon hopefully)
Loop 2 goes - Akai Deep Impact - Boss OC-2 - EHX Russian Big muff pi (Black)
Loop 3 is an internal clean blend.
then the output from the badger goes into a korg pitchblack.
From the Korg it is straight to my amp (Ashdown Mag 300 EvoII 2X10)

So you run both pickups maxed out for sure, to avoid too much single coil buzz right?
Maybe try to lower neck pickup a bit (moving it farther from strings) at the same time moving the bidge pickup closer. This will help to emphasize higher and mid frequencies.

Concerning strings, Rotos 66 have already enough harmonic content IMHO. Are yours fresh enough?

Rotosound swing 66 sound fantastic with overdrive and distortion to me. Unless of course they are past the point of needing replacement which you indicate yours are. DR neons are also very good choice for your wants imo and perhaps GHS Boomers.

It's a rare 2x10 speaker cab that can reproduce nice punchy bass.
Try running it through a 4x10.
In terms of EQ, try to get a narrow spike around 200 to 300 Hz.

Rotosound Swing Bass stainless steel is already about as punchy as it gets, string-wise.
