Never bought strings before

any suggestions for strings? i've had the same ones since I've had my bass but the g string snapped so i figure it'd be a good time to buy a new set. I was looking at EB slinkys or rotosounds because of the price (I'm not made of money so cheaper is better).
I play anything from Led Zeppelin to August Burns Red to Hillsong United to The Red Hot Chili Peppers so versitile is important, and it's an OLP MM3 (5 string) if that changes anything

Rotosound Roto's are the best bang for the buck strings on the planet:

Strings are a personal choice, but having no experience, you should just try to keep to the gauges that were already installed. You will need to do a set up after you change them, especially if they are a different gauge or tension.

Great advice.

Also, you might consider going with something in the "general use" category like the ever-popular Ernie Ball or D'Addario variety. Those are safe bets, and as time goes on you can start to experiment with more exotic (and expensive) brands.

The DR coated strings last FOREVER. Fairly bright strings. They are available in black and red too!

I recommend strings by D'Addario, great sounding strings and at good prices. I have been using their regular light gauge (45-100) nickel round wound strings for years and have no desire to switch to anything else. Now where you actually buy then is up to you.

Rotosound swing 66 nickel are nice. DR sunbeams and neons even nicer. The dr neons cost more but you'll also get an extra month or two use out of them which lowers the yearly string mainatance cost compared to cheaper strings that dont last as long.

I agree....DR's, in general, have always lasted me a while. I've only had one set (the ones currently on my squier) that have lasted less than 2 months. They cost a bit more than other strings, but they get changed less often, so in the long run, it's worth the few extra bucks...

I personally don't like rotosounds. They go dead too quickly for how much I play. When I used to use Rotos, I had to change them every week and a half to two weeks, because they would turn to rubberbands that fast. I normally change my DR's every two and a half to three months.
