A new angle on drop tuning (CGCF content)

Sign in to disble this ad
For about the last 2 years, I've been using DR Lo-Riders to play in drop C tuning, with a .115 in place of a .105. I'm relatively happy with this setup, but it seems that the .115 puts out a bit more volume than the rest of the strings. So I went and ordered a total custom set, .115, .095, .075 and .055. For 25 bucks a set, I couldn't go wrong. Anyone else use this set of sizes before? Am I a pioneer of the low tuning? (of course not).

Pros? Cons? Discuss! I'll report back once I have them on and have run a few scientific diagnostic tests...n stuff.

I've been running your set with Drop C for a few months now. But instead of a .115, I use a .110

I use a 55-110 D'addario set, you might look into it, it's cheaper than 25$ a set. I haven't noticed any volume differences on account of the string, just the stringray that I have them on.

In fact, it's $16.52 a set at juststrings.com

I've been using the EB Power Slinky strings 55-110. Works great for drop c. I'd be interested in what the 115 would sound like as a direct comparison, though.

I'd recommend a set that looks more like;

.118 .080 .061 .046

or

.124 .084 .064 .046

DR is coming out with a new line of strings specifically built for lowered tunings. Here is a link to the article about them (with available gauges) from Bass Player:

EDIT: And DRs website as well: http://www.drstrings.com/catalog/ddt-bass-strings

I've been googling for the past hour or so looking for these and all I've found is a few videos
