New bass! New strings!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all! I just purchased a wonderful brand new Ernie Ball Musicman Classic 4 stringer in Coral Red with a flamed maple fingerboard. The store I purchased it from it including a free setup since it was sitting in the shop for 5 months and there is some crazy buzzing going on with the strings. They came with the stock string which to my ear is brightness/twang overload. I'd like to deaden/warm it up a bit and since I play a lot of groove and dance music (i don't slap) I was thinking about trying out some flats...Anyone recommend a good growly flat for the MM? Thanks a ton!!! Pics to follow!

D'Addario Chromes are a fine flatwound match for a Stingray.

I suggest the 45-100 set.

For mellower roundwound strings, the GHS Bass Boomers might be a good choice for you.

I have a Stingray Classic with the 2 band EQ and I was thinking of trying a set of flats on it. Let us know how yours sounds with the new strings.

Thanks a ton! I do also play a bit of hard rock and metal so maybe sticking with rounds are a good idea...Perhaps one that is just warmer and darker. I will check out those Boomers and maybe Thomastik Jazz rounds?

Thanks again.

also considering elixers for a warmer sound in the upper register...
