I’m in the middle of a new bass build and starting to think about best string choices. So I thought I’d ask the experts (and anyone else that wants to chime in) here for a little advice.
The bass is a 5 string 34” scale Fender style with a swamp ash body and maple/maple neck. Pickups are Precision in the ’68 position and Stingray just a hair closer to the bridge than the pre-ernie ball position. The pickups are Delano and the preamp is an Audere. I suspect with the wood and preamp combo this bass will have a slightly bright sound (just a guess) if so I’d like to tame that a bit with something deep and smooth sounding. I don't do slap or pop or pick or heavy metal, mostly stick to finger style on classic and alternative rock.
If I go with flats I was thinking of going the TI Jazz route or possibly the Labella Tape wound route. If I go with round wounds I’d probably lean to the DR Black Beauties.
What strings would you pick to bring the most out of this wood/preamp set up?
