| Yes, k3 is the new coating first applied to the new neon line. It boasts greater resistznce to wear off then the previously used coating formula. So far on the neons for bass, it shows no noticeable coating wear off from pick playing for me. However on the guitar strings coating wear off occurs very quickly for plain strings that have no wrap around the core. The coating does have an affect on the sound since the neons are identified as sunbeams with coating on them. Sunbeams are darker toned with more prominant harmonics. Neons are brighter with lower harmonic content. I like the former, but am not as pleased with the latter. Neons for example still produce good touch harmonics etc, but not with the volume or ease of sunbeams. Its not a major change for this, but still readilly noticed.
Wether or not the k3 coating changes the tone of black beauties in any small way is unknown to me. We will have to wait for someone with expereince with both the old and new version of black beauties to comment on that.
If you like coated strings and play with a pick, you'll like the k3 coating for bass strings imo. Since its quite nicely resistant to coating wear off on wrapped strings. Its performance on plain strings though is poor in my experience with the two guitars I tried them on. But they work well for bass strings.
