| New D string

I recently strung my p bass up BEAD using a 5 string set. However stupid me got the D and G strings mixed up and cut the 5 string before I realized it. So now I'm used the G string in the set as my D at the moment and plan on buying a single to replace it with the proper gauge. My only problem is the strings have broken in and lost that overwhelming brightness that the new string will have. Is there anything I can do to age the string? Or am I stuck with a D string that will always be brighter than the others?
