New Dingwall Super J5 need string options

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all, just took shipment of a Dingwall Super J5 with flats installed, they feel pretty good but I'm not sure I like the tone. I'm thinking about going with some SS or nickles.

Any Dingwall owners wanna give me some suggestions? I play mainly rock music in a band setting but I enjoy playing all kinds of music, so I'd like something that can cover a few differen't sounds if that's possible. Thanks

Play it with others. If you're used to roundwound strings then flats and tapes will put you out of your comfort zone.

Keep them for awhile, havuk. You'll get some awesome tone with that bass as it is.

I'm familiar w/ SS string from Dingwall, but not nickel.
There is a current thread over in the Dingwall forums of a few folks testing out some custom made nickels (http://www.dingwallguitars.com/forum...pic.php?t=1119)

Anyway i think its irrelevant since a SuperJ 5 shouldnt need special strings. i believe the B string is 35", so standard Xl sets from many manufacturers should fit. There is a whole string section at the Dingwall forum-just for this topic (http://www.dingwallguitars.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=4)
