New Epi Les Paul string recomendations?

Sign in to disble this ad
When the thing gets to me I was thinking of putting on strings from the flatwound arena. TI's are nice but I haven't had sonic luck on fretted basses with them. Chromes have not super thrilled me but they are an option. Tapes have left me, well, sort of flat I play alt/prog type stuff but lately I am open to just about anything. What flat/half/tape do you think might suit her. I am open for any ideas even if they run towards SS or nickel. Oh yeah, I have a fresh pack of Fender 7150's pure nickels. Perhaps these might be a good fit.

some time ago, I had a Gibson Les Paul bass. I got really good tone with a set of GHS Brite Flats.

Cool, I use the Daddario halfs on an old Ibanez Blazer(pretty much a Pbass) and use a pick. It cuts through with the pick but still retains alot of round warm flatwound type sound with the tone rolled way back. The only thing I don't like is the tension. Pretty high. I like the idea of the GHS Brite Flats on the Epi and a local store has the lite set. Do you know what the tension is like on them?

I played a set of D'addario half rounds on a Fender Jazz, and I would say that the tension is similar to the GHS brite flats. If you're looking for something with less tension you might try TI jazz flats, If you're looking for more tension, I've heard that Fender's flats are a little higher tension.

The JF's are awesome but I was looking for a little more bite. I will give the GHS Brite Flats in the light gauge a go. They aren't an arm and a leg price wise.
