New Fender 9050CL 45-105 flats????

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys I see these mentioned but I dont see them listed anywhere, does fender make the new flats in standard 45-105?

I also dont see any places selling singles either..

These have the light green silk like the old 60s-70s fender flats right?

Thanks!

The rumor or word on the street is that a 9050CL set 45-60-80-105 would be out sometime after Jan 1, 2011. A couple of months ago I got a set of the 9050L with the 100 E string, and was turned on to a 105 E string separately. If this set does come out, it is the best flat set since Fender started making P-basses, and with its consistency of tone, response, evenness both across the neck and up the neck, it has coverted this roundwound guy of over 35+ years to this new flat set.

the model number is 9050CL....as in "Custom Light".

Dealers that order these will have them by mid February. They were developed soley because of requests from this forum.

I ordered a set of sadowkys only to pull them off after an hour to put my chromes back on lol. I liked the way they felt thats about it.

Im going to be ordering the 9050L set tonight, Do you know where I might be able to purchase a .105 E in the meantime until the cl set is officially out?

Cant wait to try the new fenders and great idea going back to the traditional old fender silk colors too.

Thanks.

The 9050M has a 105 E, and more importantly, the larger 55 G string. I really like the sound of a larger G string with flats. You might want to give them a try rather than the lights.

That's why there are different sets of different gauges for different folks. I really prefer the similar tension of all four strings on the CL set.

Does anyone know if they will be available in 5-6 string sets?

Even if they do make this set, the new Fender flats suck. I was able to find the older version left in stock and bought a few packs to keep me going for a couple of years.

Wow Sleeq, you have talked me out of it.

Oh wait a sec, I already use the new Fender flats and love them. So no big deal.

To each his own; I'm used to the sound/thump of the older Fender flats. I tried the new ones and honestly the sound changed too much for my liking.

There's still a lot of sets (according to my friend) at the mom and pop store from my home town if you call them. Hoover Music (Springfield, MO). They'd probably ship to you. They used to stock the old 9050s heavily, I remember running there to get some for Jazz Bass a couple of times.

Pity you didn't give the Sads a chance. They sound horrid new, clanky and boomy with a hole in the middle. After a little while they round out and the tone becomes very balanced with growl on tap and a nice amount of thump.

I love Chromes, too. I find they have some more high mids that make them a bit less 'traditional flat' sounding, while the Sads are a more cutting, and firmer version of LaBellas to my ears.

Just buy the 9050L set and hopefully a .105'' single will be available when they release the CL set.
