(New here!)Need some advice about 6 string bass sets, roundwounds.

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello everyone, I noticed a similar topic in this board about flatwounds but I thought I'd make a separate topic for roundwounds.

I'm looking for a set of Roundwounds that would work on a 34" scale neck bass (The bass I'm using is the Ibanez SR506 2010 edition).

However, instead of tuning BEADGC, I need a set that will work in EADGBE/EADGCF.

Any suggestions? I don't seem to be having any luck turning up a set that extends beyond that High C.

I live in the UK if that helps, in case I'd have to pay shipping fees or whatnot.

Hello Dooms, Just sorting the same thing myself. Round wounds tuned at EADGCF on 6 string and BEADGCF on a 7 ( present F#BEADGC ) i have. Emailed better suppliers and not had any luck. You will need around 25-27mil (thou) from other TB's advice some little time ago. Report back here if i have any luck. Regards.

Thanks! Shame the shipping cost to UK adds a fair bit to the price but it's just about acceptable. I don't switch strings too often.

A few (of the many gauge options):

.100 .076 .055 .040 .029 .020p

.096 .072 .052 .037 .027 .019p

.092 .068 .049 .035 .025 .018p

Which of those would you recommend?

I play mainly metal, love doing Cilff Burton style solos, need something that has suitable heaviness to it, yet is flexible enough to allow for fluid note bends.

Glad you found the link usefull. Lean towards stainless strings due to many reasons. Though a good set of plated steels can work very well. Correct me if am mistaken, believe the Circle K strings are plated steels. Have no user information on these strings ie never tried them to date. Will be. Agree with you about the requirements re "ease to bend" no one likes playing fence wire....

Buy all my strings ex USA to Australia. Have you contacted James How industries ( Rotosound ) in UK for custom strings if the freight is too expensive USA to UK. Have a supplier in the USA whom bundles the 6 string sets for me and the shipping is very cost effective, 4 sets at a time is good buying for me. Great bloke as well, plays Bass, of course.

Good hunting for your Nirvana of string..... Regards.

I'd go with the .100 set - CKs are pretty flexible regardless of gauge.

Yeah, I think I'll go with the 100-20.

The 100 is what I'm used to my low E.

I hate to double post, but I had a point to add.

I'm interested in buying a set of strings from your web pages, but at the shopping cart billing information page, there's a field that says:

*state/province:

as one of the essential fields. I like in the UK so the field is n/a to me but even after selecting UK as my country, it still demands that I fill in that field before I can continue.

I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or it's just an error with the site.

Yup - and I'll apologize again.

It's a glitch in the shopping cart software that we are working on a fix for. Select ANY state/province from the pulldown and it'll let you finish up.

It's alright, I added this post in addition to the pm, just because I wasn't sure if anyone else had the problem and I wasn't sure if it was just me going mad.
