new Hi-Neams aren't as bright (color) as the old ones?

I'm just putting new strings on my 5-string. Usually new strings are silver and used strings are a bit darker (some spots more than others), right? Usually I could see very well when the new g-string was on how much newer and brighter it looked compared to the old ones.
Now the old strings sound a little dead but still have that bright silver look. the new g-string is much brighter in tone but has almost a coppery color.
Anyone had this before? What's up with that?

Never had an issue with brightness form Hi-Beams (I'm assuming you're talking DR here..).. they were so bright, in fact, I eventually switched to, and still play, Sunbeams. If there's any issue of balance of tone between the strings, though, and it really strikes you as a manufacturing error, I've heard nothing but good remarks about DR's customer service.
