i have a query. i have a fender fretless jazz bass and i am planning on putting d'addario chromes medium gauge strings on it. will i need a new nut for this, or will the strings fit properly with the stock nut? thanks in advance.

as long as they are the same gauge, the nut is fine.

i have the same bass (squier VM fretless J) and i started with flats and then switched to rounds...
it didnt make any difference.

just make sure that you keep the bass setup correctly, the strings will have a different tension on the neck.

Don't see a problem with that..................oh, if you want to replace the plastic nut, go to your tech and ask if he/she can but on a polished bone nut.......I have one on my Ray and love it..........the original plastic one on my Ray cracked at every notch...surprising that such a high quality instrument would have a cheap plastic nut....but, oh well. Bone nuts give a warmer tone, not harsh.

Simple! This should be perfect for your Jazz bass.

These are used on Gibson and other high quality basses. I live by Graphtech.
