Maybe someone with some experience can help me out...
I just changed the strings because I didn't like the pitch difference between the open E and the open A. I felt that the A string's pitch was too high, and since I bought this Dean used, I didn't know the brand/guage of the original strings. They had a nice rumbly sound to them, but the pitch difference bewtween the E & A was not to my liking. I thought that if I change to larger diameter strings all would be good (or at least, better). Wrong.
Now the guitar sounds mechanical and tinny. (I don't use a pick, and I miss that softness sound that I had). It's an inexpensive starter (Dean Edge 1 - I'm saving up for a G&L L-2000 Trib), but it sounded much better with the old strings. Anyway, when I had all the strings off, I cleaned it up and tightened all the screws; bridge, pickups, etc..I put on Hartke "Transient Attack" HSB 445 Nickel Wound .045, .065, .080, .105. Are these just terrible strings, or did I do something wrong (my 1st attempt at changing strings).
Sorry about being long-winded, but I didn't want to leave anything out.
If these strings just plain suck, then any suggestions would be more than welcomed...hell, that's why I wrote this novel.
Thanks, Ack
