Another string you may consider is the D'Addario Chrome Flats as they are pretty bright as compared to say Thomastik-Infeld Jazz flats. I have the Jazz Flats on my Alembic Persuader (P-J configuration) and they have a tone to die for. My other P-Bass has the Chrome flats and they sound very close to the Jazz Flats except they have the ability to get a brighter tone when needed.
Good luck in your search! |
I had a Sadowsky PJ5 and I thought it didn't sound as good with the Sadowsky steel strings (my opinion). In fact, I think the Sadowsky steel strings sound bad on every bass I tried them on. In contrast, I think D'Addarios sound good on the Sadowsky, and almost every other bass for that matter.
D'Addarios nickels are always my first try. Even if they aren't perfect for a bass, they never sound bad to my ears. To be more specific, the Sadowsky steel strings had less low end response and much stronger mids. The Sadowsky strings were a lot darker for this reason, and did not have a good slap tone to my ears (not enough highs, too much mids, not enough lows).
The D'Addarios have more bass, less harsh mids, sparkling highs, and sound great for finger style or slap.
