New Set of Strings - What a Difference!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
Even a second-time-around-newbie like me feels what a HUGE!difference a new set of strings does for your bass!!

Research on the "Strings" forum helped me to decide on going with the Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys (nickle, green pkg.).Our local muic store expert also recommended the EBs for my needs.

They sound kind of "brite" (that the word I`m looking for?) and I`ve heard they are "punchy" until you play on them for a while.Strings give the whole thing a tighter and springier feel.
When I played before I used garden variety Fenders then switched to Rotosounds Swing `66s.Used to love the Swings. How do EBs and `66s compare?or do they?

The fellow also lowered/adjusted my action and checked the neck/truss rod for me.Forgot how excellent the service usually is with a smaller music shop. They`re getting all of my business.

Ernie Ball Slinkies are good sets, they're bright at first then they'll start to mellow out and feel warm... i haven't tried the rotos though but I've heard great things and am willing to try the Funk Master 30-90 soon..

If you mean the Nickel swing 66 (blue pack), they may be a bit similar to the EBs.

But the chances are you mean the stainless steel version, which is a lot more popular, and what people normally mean when they say R66. These will be completley different to the Ebs, and different to almost any other string out there. Very unique sounding, very bright, and quite rough.

Thank you.

I kind of remember the Rotos were pretty tough on my fingers.Stainless steel strings are always rougher like that?

When the EBs break in do they become a tad easier to fret?Or is it just something I get used to?

Yes, steels will feel a bit rougher than Nickel, but not all steels are as rough as the Rotos, but it is something you get used to, so I dont see it as a problem .

I doubt your slinkies will get much easier to fret. If its a major problem for you, next time you change strings try a lighter gauge maybe.
