New Squire VM Jag Bass, string choices?

Just bought my first Fender/Squire VM Jag(brand new $159). It's got the factory strings on it and was looking for some advice on some different strings. Rounds, flats, etc...I've been playing a couple months now and tend towards rock, blues and some country. TIA.

Nickel plated rounds are a good place to start since it's sort of middle ground for a lot of people (between SS and flats). If you feel like you need more thump and a lot less treble, try some flats...if you feel they need more zing or bite, try some stainless steel ones. If you're happy with the nickels then congratulations! You don't have to buy another set of strings

D'Addarios are a good, reasonably priced place to start. I prefer DRs but they can be rather expensive.

Thanks, I think I'll stay with the fender strings for a bit. I'll experiment more with the bass itself and my amp to get the sound I want first. It's got a lot of thump already, I'll see if I can't play with my controls to get more mid and treble. Learning process you know!
