Question New strings.....

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all,
Im looking to buy some new strings today. I was thinking of getting some thinner ones. I played someone else's bass and theirs seemed thinner, which i found a lot easier to play and better sounding. So my question is this...if i get thinner strings, will i loose any quality in sound or will it make everything sound higher? I want to get thinner ones also because the E string on my bass rite now just doesnt have any sustain and it sounds like crap.(just rattling and clanky) Any help would be nice.

Thanks,
Mike

Lighter-gauge strings IN GENERAL have thinner tone than heavier strings OF THE SAME TYPE. Remember of course there are LOTS of factors that make one set of strings sound different from another.

If you want lighter, easier-to-play strings, but still want a dark sound, you may want to consider some lighter-gauge flatwounds.
