New Strings for 5 string...

What are the best strings I could get for my 5 string Peavey.
My E string broke recently...
I don't like a bright sounding strings or strings that make a "zingy" sound.

I personally like GHS boomers
mediums or lights are the best.

Most strings require a certain amount of use to get rid of that 'zingy' sound. You'll find that most strings are a little more bright when they're new.

Honestly, "best strings" is an entirely subjective judgment - there is no one "best". If you don't like bright and/or zingy strings then maybe you want to consider flatwounds?

Within THAT category, do you have other constraints, such has price, feel, tension, tone, etc?

Yeah, I suck, I know that. But at least I suck a little less than I did yesterday.

Well, I don't want flatwounds because I play Metal. Flatwounds don't sound that well for Metal. But I don't like really bright sounding strings or really zingy strings.

A low price would be nice. Like $30 - $50 range.

I ususally use Dean Markley SR2000's which are bright and clangy and last for a long, long time.

Someone gave me a set of Laklands (which I'm told are GHS Boomers) and they are great on my Peavey Axcellerator 5 string. Much better than the stock Peavey strings.

So I'm in favor of Boomers for you...

Look into Steve Harris' strings from Rotosound.
