New strings advice

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys!!!
I have a warwick $$ and recently changed my strings to ernie ball regular slinkys.
the problem is they sound dead after only a couple of months.....
Especially when i slap, they seem really tight and lifeless....
I play a few different styles like rock, blues and funk.
im assuming the slinkys should last more than a few months before needing replacement???
Can anyone suggest some strings that may suit the various styles while still sounding awesome for slapping. thanks!!!

I tried Slinky's once..lasted me about 4 days before they were dead.

FatBeams are the way to go for sure.

Everyone's Ph is different, but I get about 3 weeks or so out of a set of Slinkys.

Plus one on BSO. Great company owned by a great guy whose a TBer.

If Stainless isn't your bag, you should give the Sunbeams a try.

Also Sadowsky strings are very long lasting as well!

These aren't string suggestions, but they may help...

You can boil old strings to make them a little brighter...but it only lasts a little while and the strings may break shortly after a couple boils.

I used to rub down my strings with 90% isopropyl alcohol before and after playing, it seemed to add some brightness.

Since you specifically cite your slap tone as an issue, allow me to ask, how low is your action at the 12th fret (space between 12th fret and bottoms of strings)?

Lower action will help add definition to your slap tone, even when your strings start to go dead. This is a very general guideline, but you probably want about 3/32" of space at the 12th fret, plus or minus 1/32" depending on your preferences and how level the frets are...

Those sLo-riders sound awesome on the $$. They are great for really bringing out the Warwick growl for slapping and tapping, but you can also get a good range of tones for finger style playing also. I konw others have mentioned it but deffinitely check out Bass Strings Online and register as a TB member. You can get way better deals even with shipping than any of the music stores near me. Let me know if you find some other good strings to try.
