New strings, I want that dead round sound back

I just put on a fresh set of Fat Beams and i absolutely hate it. I used to love that sound. The last 6 months or so i've been really busy and i kept one set on and practiced/gigged. I changed them last week and hated my tone for my last couple rehearsals.

My question to you is, any string recommendations for something more dead sounding out of the box? flats?

Flats, sure, or just eat yourself a BBQ cheeseburger with bacon and onion rings, never touch the napkin after and go play for a while.

Just play them' couple weeks on a bass is they need, even flats out of the box have that new string sound. The only strings that dont are tapewound, and even they settle in a lil bit. just play em' twont be too long.

I heard one time that when a bassist would need new strings but wanted that dead sound and only had rounds, he'd go roll them in dirt.

Turn the tone knob down for a while, and don't change your strings again unless one breaks. The rounds on my J are 11 years old and doing fine.

Eb Slinkies go dead quicker than any other strings that I have used. Give them a shot or give flats a try.
